Morgan's Rock is part of the green movement with our tree farming, conservation and reforestation projects that extends over 1,800 hectares. Your Bungalow
The bungalows are made out of exotic national woods like Almendro, Caoba, Cedro, Eucalipto, Guapinol, Laurel and Nogal… beautiful sounding Spanish names that have been worked into the structure of the Morgan’s Rock’s bungalows. Most of the fifteen bungalows let you revere dramatic sunsets disappear into the Pacific Ocean.
Property
Morgan’s Rock Hacienda & Ecolodge is located in the middle of a 1,800-hectare property which includes a 1,000-hectare reforestation area with tropical precious woods, a 800-hectare private nature reserve and a large natural sanctuary on the Pacific Coast of Central America, just 30 kilometres away from Costa Rica.
The conservation of this area has permitted to preserve the habitat of the animals living in this region and it has been enlarged with the plantation of 1.5 million trees over the past ten years.
These reforested lands, together with the nature reserve and the estuary, host a variety of animals such as howler, spider and capuchin monkeys, sloths, white tipped deer, other mammals and reptiles as well as many native or migrant birds. The beach is a nesting ground for sea turtles between July and January. This entire property is yours to discover with our guides.
Nature Tours
Riverbed Nature Walk:
Walk down one of the most exciting places in our Property where you will get to see many different exotic plants and wildlife. During the dry season, observe the wildlife living in the trees. In the rainy season, take notice of the relationship between the riverbed’s stream and the surrounding trees and plants. The water attracts many different species that are local to the area.

Night Walk
Have you ever wondered what goes on in the forest once the sun goes down? Explore the forest after night falls and see a different side of nature. With the help from our guides, walk through the forest and along the estuary and observe the nocturnal animals in their natural habitats. The trails are easy to walk and with a flashlight in hand, share the nights mysteries with millions of stars.

The Magic of Reforestation
Join the worldwide “green” movement and give back to nature by planting a tree that will never be cut down. We want to keep planting as many trees as possible on the Property. By planting your own tree, the tree will have a plaque with your name and date as a reminder to your contribution to Mother Nature and your stay at our hotel. Also, you will contribute to our mission in the reforestation of these lands.

El Mirador "Palo de Pluma"
Hike or take a jeep to the highest point on the property. This is one of the most challenging treks, yet it offers the magnificent view of Lake Nicaragua, Ometepe Island and its impressive volcanoes and the northern and southern Pacific Coast. Our guide will show you where the canal was going to be built. The hike is steep and treacherous, but a great challenge nonetheless for those hiking lovers.

Dry Forest Experience
Start at “La Piedra del Indio” and take a hike into our reserve and explore the difference in the local flora and fauna from the rest of our Property. Walk through the forest, notice the different settings and take in what nature has to offer. Observe the primary and secondary ecosystems that occur in the locations.

Meeting the Baby Sea Turtles
Here at Morgan’s Rock we are fortunate to be a nesting beach for many sea turtles that come to our beach to lay their eggs (Seasons vary, but normally from Aug – Feb). Down at the beach, you will notice a hut where we keep the eggs to prevent them from being eaten by wild animals. We mark dates on the nests and wait between 45 and 48 days for the eggs to hatch. It is truly a blessing to be able to help the baby turtles that way and give back to nature in any way we can. We will let everyone know if any baby turtles are making it to the surface and if there is a sea turtle laying its eggs.
Nature Walk
Gather along on a group walk with one of the guides as they lead everyone through the forest in search of some wild animals and plants. The walk is very easy and offers the opportunity to check out some of the local species that we have on the Property. Keep your eyes open at all times as many of the animals are fast and sneaky. Make sure to ask questions to our guides about the local flora and fauna as he preaches about the different species and habitats.

Mountain Bike:
Hop on to one of our mountain bikes and ride down our trails in search of all the stunning things our forest has to offer. Ride at your own pace and take a moment to admire the beautiful surroundings and striking views. By riding through our trails, you will be amazed by the immense number of tree species and ecosystems that lie within the Property.

Breakfast at the Farm
Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a typical Nicaraguan breakfast? Come experience the daily routine of what a Nicaraguan family does to put breakfast at the table. You will milk a cow, pick eggs from our chicken barn, grind corn, make tortillas, and prepare some “Gallopinto” for a full breakfast at our farm. In this hands-on tour, cooking and learning will take a new meaning.

Sunset on the hill
One of the most romantic tours at Morgan’s Rock, we invite you to experience a sunset like no other. Walk through the beach and up the northern coastal hill and take in the stunning view of the Pacific Ocean as the sun sets in the horizon. Relax at the bench we have settled there and enjoy with your partner a lovely sunset on top of our hill.

Sunrise Estuary Kayaking
Explore the Mangrove Forest ecosystem in our double kayak with our guide’s help and knowledge of the area. Experience the different variety of shore birds and understand the complex features that mangroves sustain on a daily basis. The calm waters and the light breeze make this tour very pleasant and informative with its ecosystem filled with life. Be on the lookout for the different species that benefit from estuary and learn about how the mangrove is crucial for our environment.

Surfing
Nicaragua is a surfer’s paradise. During your stay at Morgan’s Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge you will have the opportunity to arrange at our tour desk one of our boats that will take you to nearby surfing beaches. Morgan’s Rock does not have surf boards for rent but in nearby San Juan del Sur rentals are available.

Fisherman for a Day
Hop on board the ECO I and fish with nylon right outside of the Morgan's Rock bay. Our fishing crew will demonstrate how local fisherman catch their fish and you will get to experience the real art of fishing. The tour is great for the entire family to enjoy. The cost for this tour is: $150 (2-4 people) or $100 (1 people)

Cruising on the Argonauta
Relax on our beautiful 48 foot wooden yacht The Argonauta and enjoy the southern breeze and Pacific Ocean. Settle on the deck and spot dolphins, whales, rays, turtles and the many different species that come to the surface. If you like fishing, feel free to let some lines go and enjoy. We recommend cruising while the sun goes down. The cost for half a day for 12 people is $600 and full day is $1,200. Any additional person is $10/person, up to 18 people.

Catch & Release
Head out into the Pacific in “The Commodore” and enjoy a half or a full day of deep sea fishing. Catch different game fish with our experienced crew and have the fishing day you deserve. It’s a fun tour for the entire family or for the fishing enthusiast.
